Our Story

Beginning over 40 years ago as a humble market stall, The Harlequin is a family-run vintage shop in the heart of Dublin city’s bustling creative quarter with a reputation for supplying quality vintage clothes that are on trend.

My Mum, Susanna Smyth, established the shop in The Dandelion Market during the 1970’s, I joined forces in the early 1990’s having previously worked in wardrobe on films like Michael Collins, The Old Curiosity Shop, and War of the Buttons. Over the years both my children and many of my friends have worked with me in our little old shop on a busy pedestrian street wedged between the Powersourt Town House and the Geoges Street Arcade.

We believe in hand picking and selling mid-priced vintage goods and a small selection of new accessories for  the fashion-conscious customer and like-minded fashion lovers. With  men’s and women’s clothing ranging from the turn of the last century to modern day designer pieces, we aim to provide something for every taste, style and budget.

Unfortunately having traded through two recessions and one celtic tiger, we closed the doors in March 2020 to protect our staff and customers from the Covid-19 virus. You can keep buying  our stock through this website. Thanks to the heroic work of the women and men in our postal service, we are able to ship them to you wherever you are. It is the beginning of the next chapter of our story; we would love for you to play a part in it.
